About Me

Color, imagination, and a little bit of fun are at the heart of my work. My paintings and drawings bring together bright colors, playful characters, ancient symbols, cultural influences, and a love of Pop Art, all with my own whimsical twist. I call my style Primitive Pop, a mix of the whimsical, the colorful, and the unexpected.

A big part of my artwork is the use of characters I call Sonny. These stick-like, organic figures appear throughout much of my work. They can be playful, curious, thoughtful, or simply enjoying the moment. Sometimes Sonny is right in the middle of the story, while other times he quietly becomes part of the world around him. These characters have become a recurring part of my artistic language and a way for me to express emotions, ideas, and a sense of fun without saying a word.

My journey as an artist began with growing up around art and creativity. I was raised in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, and later lived in Geneva and Buffalo, New York, before making my way to West Palm Beach, Florida. Along the way, I've had the opportunity to experience art in many different communities and settings, while also learning about art through my college studies. Each place and experience has added something to the way I see and appreciate art.

I've always been curious about artists and their work. Over the years, I've explored artists from different periods, cultures, and styles, discovering new ideas and ways of seeing. Being exposed to other artists continues to inspire and motivate me. I enjoy appreciating what makes their work unique and allowing those discoveries to open my mind to new possibilities in my own work.

Alongside my own artwork, I've spent many years as a teaching artist, bringing hands-on art experiences to children and adults in schools, community programs, and special-needs settings. Designing creative projects and helping others discover the excitement of making art has become an important part of my creative life. Teaching also gives me the opportunity to keep experimenting, exploring materials, and looking at art from a different perspective.

Over the years, my creativity has taken me in many directions. I draw and paint, work in two and three dimensions, and enjoy finding new surfaces and objects to transform. My work has included paintings, ArtCars, sculptures, murals, signs, commissioned decorative furniture, cigar boxes, and other functional art. I enjoy that variety because it keeps my work open to new ideas and possibilities.
